Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackHad a quick question…I am a Engineer in Arcadia …we have 2006 Pierce Arrow XT pumpers and I came across your tire pressure specs for your rigs. What is the thought process behind the lower pressure on the rear tires? We have always run 110-115psi cold according the the manufacturer. I am wondering if we would benefit to change this…it seems on all your rigs the rear tires are in the 90’s….and is there any legality that could arise out of deviating from the sidewall spec? Also…this site is great…great way to get info out there….a large dept will have a great influence on us smaller ones.
The reason for this that when the tire is inflated over 90 psi the rear tires get too hard and do not have enough of a foot print on the road. so certain down hill brake applications they tend to skid which activates the ABS system and turns off your Jake brake, which can lead to a down hill over speed. We first discovered this when we took a road test over at Fargo hill and almost lost control going down hill, it was pretty hairy!
